Your document may be in a language you do not understand or have to do with a foreign legal system you do not know about. As a notary I must be sure that that you and I understand the document and we understand each other and know what the effect the document will have when it goes abroad – I cannot simply take your word for it.
I may have to ask that the document is properly translated into English or that a qualified interpreter is present at your interview. I may need both. I will have to ask you to pay for these extra services which I am able to arrange for you. The cost varies according to the length and complexity of the document and the language involved.
